Or what about a Flash Drive? Those things are so cheap now I have been thinking about getting one just for things like this. Is there a negative side that I haven't heard about? They seem lie such a handy tool with their small size, portability and volume capacity. |

The USB Flash drives are awesome. They are making them now so that they can hold over a gig of data, so you can store a lot on them and then take what was stored anywhere you want. Some day, HDDs will use the Flash drive technology so that there will be no need for moving parts, and they will remain cool and use much less energy. It's only a matter of time...

I put the Flash drive right up there under Gadwin for usefulness. Not WITH it of course but very close! LOL
I LOVE the USB Flash drives! I got a 1GB for about $14 from Wal-Mart on Black Friday. The prices are going down, down, down. I think they are up to about 8GB now. The 5 to 8 GB are a bit larger but still fit in the palm of your hand.

| I"m going to look into how long the flash drives will retain data on them. They might be an alternative, for storage, to DVD and CDs. If they will retain the data a sufficient time it would be handy to label them and use them for easy-accessible storage. What do you think? |

They are too expensive for that! LOL A CD costs only a few cents and DVD just a bit more. No I don't think a Flash drive would be an alternative for CD and DVD long term storage in most cases.
I do have one loaded with PC tools and apps for when I work on someone's PC though. Like the newest AVG, Ad-aware, Spybot, Zone Alarm, a registry cleaner, Crap Cleaner, Easy Cleaner, CodeStuff Starter, etc.
They ARE great for short term storage however.

They will retain the data until you delete it...
