One can question ANYTHING. One can ARGUE. But when one's post has no visible intent other than to rile the person addressed, that is baiting. - Ian Clark Ian, do you really think I had no intent in my post other than to rile Philip? That is a completely and utter misinterpretation of my posts. That is the problem Ian. I have no intentions or desire to rile anyone, especially Philip. But if Philip is creating a new rule that has a very good probability of being used against me just because I am a naturally curious and inquisitive human being, I should have a right to challenge it BEFORE it is used against me. Afterwards, it is too late because once you are banned, you are not given a reason and all email sent for clarification is completely ignored. Once you are banned, there is no way to undue the penalty even if it was a result of a misconception... Just because you don't know or understand me Ian, doesn't give you the right to claim everything I say to be baiting and then rudely label me a "troll" with ZDNet's blessing. I try very hard to understand everyone's posts, including yours. But sometimes things you and everyone else says isn't clear or doesn't make sense. It should be perfectly valid for anyone to ask for clarification. If you choose not to expound on your original message, it is your right. But the request for clarification should never be considered baiting even if YOU can't see any visible intent... Your message is a perfect example. The clear intent of my message was to get clarification on a policy that is likely to bite me in the a$$ someday. You may not have been able to see any visible intent and/or you saw that I was arguing. Neither was the case but that was your perception. IOW, I may be banned based on perception, not reality. I think I have a clear and valid reason to get clarification for this new rule... You may have been raised not to question anything. I was raised to question everything. Somehow, that policy has served me well and I have learned a great deal about a lot of differing topics as a result. I hope you would never take the words "when", "where", "what", "how", and "why" out of your children's vocabulary. You would be doing them a terrible disservice. I hope you wouldn't support a policy that would do the same to me... |
