You're so awesome!
I don't know when I'm doing it yet, but I am going to try it.
It will be at least a few days. Lots going on here, that takes priority right now...
But when I do it, I think I open DiskPart, and enter:
Code:
|
Syntax
create partition primary [size=n] [offset=n] [ID={byte|EFI}] [noerr]
|
But I'll know better after I "study" some more |

I guess the n that is size would be 24,000,000,000 b, and that n for the offset I guess I'll make 26,000,000,000 b, that way I still leave room for more stuff on C: and a little extra if I want another partition...
Code:
|
Then, I guess I do:
Syntax
assign [{letter=f|mount=Path}] [noerr]
|
Parameters
mount=Path
The mount point path you want to assign to the volume. I don't have a clue what this means, though... |

I don't know what you are doing or using, but it sounds very dangerous. Why don't you use a program like PartitionExpert???

Because I don't have that...
The built-in prog. is DiskPart , and the help file says to do what I typed up there...I guess I won't do it that way, then...
I used to know how to do this, I actually went to school for it... But I have forgotten a LOT. I feel like I learn something, and then something I knew falls out of my brain to make room for the next thing... |

TDQ, what OS are you running? From the screenshot, it might be Win XP. If so, I think it has a partitioning program, that's graphical and relatively easy to use. You don't have to type in commands like your example; you type in numbers for partition sizes as you choose the partitions. If I recall, XP's partitioning utility claims it'll partition without losing data. Does your DiskPart wipe the hard drive, or partition without losing data? |

This may be what you're talking about bigR!
Yes, i have XP
Everything I have is here as far as hardware and power.
But I still need to read a lot about all this stuff, and being Halloween and all, I am getting off the 'puter until later tonight. We all have to be ready to Trick or Treat in half forty five minutes or so!
You guys are so awesome. |

Yes, TDQ, that's what I was talking about. The XP partitioning utility is relatively straightforward, no cryptic commands to type in a command window. You can see the sizes of all your partitions, and graphically resize them.
I find the pictures easier to understand than typed-in numbers or a list of partition sizes. Must be old age.... used to use fdisk, way back in the day of DOS, no pretty pics or diagrams back then. |

That's the one! That's what I used back then too! I actually used it in DOS when I had a win95 IBM PC. Oh, no, what's going to fall out of the other side of my head now!? |

The XP Partitioning program should work fine for you. If you want, I can upload the PartitionExpert program to our server for you to download. I may pawn that duty off on rb though since she has broadband and the file is large...
PartitionExpert can work outside of Windows and it is a good partitioning program. You might want to look into TrueImage too to create images of your partitions so that you can restore them if things go terribly south...

How many hours would it take me to download? Remember, I have dial-up, too
I think I still have a lot to learn before attempting this, and I can't back everything up until this weekend. I just forgot what else I was going to say... I think I am having premature senility |
