My PC started doing this a short time back (about a week ago) and I have not been able to find out what is causing it to connect by itself. For instance I disconnected from the internet when I went to bed at 10 O'Clock last night and when I checked it 3:30 AM it was back online. I hooked up a new battery powered surge protector in the last week and it has a cable that connects the surge protector to a USB port on my PC. The surge protector has a program that will shut down my PC in case of a power outage and it will also save all data and settings. That is the purpose of the connecting cable. Could it be that that is the cause of my problem? The problem seemed to start about the time that I got my new surge protector. I have a program that hooks itself up online at 2:00AM each morning to check for viruses but I have been running it for deveral months without any problems. My automatic hookup occurs spasmodically during the day. Any help will be appreciated. Bobby |

This sounds like you have an automatic update from one of your programs scheduled to call home at a specific time. Since it you just installed a new program for the Surge Protector, I would check its settings to see if it is set to automatically look for updates. Check any other recently installed program to see if it might do this too...
