Well I guess when mu computer kept rebooting when I put a disc in was just a warning, because now it won't boot up fully, it just reboots boots until I get a black screen where I can go into safe mode or sart normally. I am in safe mode now backing up last weeks photos. I think the mother board or what ever it is finally went out for the last time. I got a error message saying norton didn't fully load and application error with norton.
I will have to use this second pc until I can get a new one. I think I will have to retire this media center. I guess I got my moneys worth, $1100 in 2003 I think. |

You could try uninstalling Norton in safe mode and see if that may help.
Yeah, a 7 year old PC might be on it's way out. On the other hand it could be good for several more years. There are people out there still running Windows 98 on the original PC.
What operating system do you have on there, XP? It's possible your problem is software or corrupt system files and not hardware. Try running sfc /scannow from the Run box. You may need the service pack 3 on a CD .... oops, the CD/DVD drive seem to be your problem doesn't it .... try running sfc /scannow anyway. Do this in Safe Mode if it will allow.

Its not all bad news. I just put mouse cd in and my old opt. drives are working again. So it needed to be reformated really bad. I did have just about everything backed up, so only the emails bother me, I needed some of those client emails and others, but over all I didn't lose anything but time and this will save me hundreds of dollars if it all works again. |

Keeping my fingers crossed.......
If you don't back up your email files on a regular bases maybe you should consider a web based email account. Like Yahoo, AIM or Gmail, you can access those anytime from anywhere. At least forward your important emails to a web based email account for safe keeping.

BTW, have you checked in Windows Explorer for your email? They may not be lost after all you may just need to set up your account in your email client again (Outlook Express?).
