I fixed the RSS/XML Newsfeed option that we offer that allows you to receive all of the messages from the entire community in your Newsfeed reader. Many of the newer email applications and browsers include a newsfeed reader. If you don't have access to a newsfeed reader, you can find many for free on the Internet...

This was another strange bug that was brought to my attention. It took me a while to figure out how to fix it. Even the MOD author was baffled by this, so he was of no help...

You can obtain the newsfeed address by pressing on the RSS button on the bottom of every page:

This is what I get when I press the button at the bottom of this page, is that what I'm suppose to see?:

Don't forget what you are getting when you click on the XML button. You are obtaining a link that you can add to your RSS Newsfeed application or utility so you can receive all the posts from the entire community. The display isn't important at this point. You might see something like this after pressing on the button:

But this is what is important:

http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/rss.php

In your Newsfeed application, you will probably see a list that looks something like what I have here in Opera:

Then when you click on any of those links, you would see the message and it might look something like it does in Opera:

Every Newsfeed program and Utility is different, so you may have to experiment. I heard that Thunderbird has a Newsfeed utility included too. Perhaps that means that Netscape does as well...

Click on the link in Opera and see what happens...

Or did you mean to view the XML link from THIS page in Opera??

In that case I see miles of code but when I post it I see this:

The rising was crushed and many of its leaders executed but the campaign carried on.

In the early 1920s, 26 counties of Ireland gained independence from London following negotiations which led to partition. The island's other six counties, part of the province of Ulster, remained in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Partition brought a year of civil war between those who accepted it and those who felt that the whole island should be independent.

Relations between Dublin and London remained strained for many years afterwards. Northern Ireland saw decades of violent conflict between those campaigning for a united Ireland and those wishing to stay in the United Kingdom. In an unprecedented and concerted effort to resolve the situation, the Irish and UK governments worked closely together in negotiations which led to the Good Friday Agreement on the future of Northern Ireland in 1998.

Since joining the European Community in 1973, the Republic of Ireland has accelerated its growth from a largely agricultural society into a modern, technologically-advanced Celtic Tiger economy.

The country has also seen the traditionally strong influence of the Roman Catholic Church wane and the modernising values of those who believe in freedom of choice for the individual gain greater sway. Divorce and contraception have been legalised, although abortion remains illegal except in the most extreme circumstances.

 * Population: 4 million (UN, 2004)
 * Capital: Dublin
 * Area: 70,182 sq km (27,097 sq miles)
 * Major languages: English, Irish
 * Major religion: Christianity
 * Life expectancy: 74 years (men), 80 years (women) (UN)
 * Monetary unit: 1 Euro = 100 cents
 * Main exports: Machinery and equipment, chemicals, foodstuffs
 * GNI per capita: US $26,960 (World Bank, 2003)
 * Internet domain: .ie
 * International dialling code: +353

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/country_profil es/1038581.stm
_________________

In My Opinion :: RE: FIXED RSS Feed Option... http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=90137#90137 First Post: Nightrider
Subject: Re: FIXED RSS Feed Option...
Posted: 07/17/2005 10:10 AM (GMT -5)
Topic Replies: 3

_________________

Give Peace A Chance. Pass It On!!!

In My Opinion :: RE: Jermain Taylor wins !!!! http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=90136#90136 First Post: rb2d2xp
Subject: Re: Jermain Taylor wins !!!!
Posted: 07/17/2005 9:53 AM (GMT -5)
Topic Replies: 2

Congratulations from me too, Bobby! Hometown boy makes good, warms the heart doesn't it? Some quotes:

 When Mark Pochon arrived at the Hovey Lake Fish and Wildlife Area 18 years ago as property manager, the only double-crested cormorants were the ones pictured in the refuge office's bird books.

 The hook-billed predatory waterfowl had once been prevalent throughout North America, but like the bald eagle, the bird was nearly decimated by the use of the pesticide DDT. By the early 1970s, it was considered extinct in Indiana and endangered in most other states.

 Environmentalists came to its rescue, and thanks to a combination of events, including an amendment to the federal 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the double-crested cormorant won the protection of the federal government. Now, Pochon arrives in the morning at Hovey Lake in Posey County to find between 800 to 1,000 of the slender-beaked black birds submerged in the water "like submarines" with their snake-like long necks sticking up like periscopes. By mid-October, he expects another 4,000 to 5,000 to arrive at Hovey Lake during their annual migratory stopover from the North. "They've made a fantastic comeback," said Pochon. At an estimated 2 million and growing at a rate of almost 8 percent a year, there's little doubt they've made a comeback. Some say they've come back with a vengeance. * * *

 Lewis and other wildlife officials fear the double-crested cormorant will soon join the ranks of other once-precious wildlife that are now perceived by the public as pests. On that list is the Canadian goose and the white tail deer, two animals that had come close to extinction in North America, only to be brought back with such vigor that they now are seen as a nuisance by some. Geese are a subject of aggravation for their prolific excrement and the deer for eating shrubs in suburbia and darting into highway traffic during mating season. Especially vulnerable, Lewis said, are the double-crested cormorants because they're, well, ugly.

http://indianalawblog.com/archives/2004/09/environment _cor.html

_________________

-

-

In My Opinion :: RE: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths...

-

-

First Post: rb2d2xp

Subject: Re: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths...
Posted: July 17 2005, 9:13 AM (GMT -5.00)

Topic Replies: 20

Here is a rather old article:

August 1, 1998

Officially, the double-crested cormorant is a protected species, its safety guarded by federal law. But on the Lake Ontario shoreline west of Watertown, N.Y., the long-necked black birds have become a pest to anglers, who say the growing colonies of cormorants are devouring smallmouth bass and, along with them, the livelihood of people who sell bait and run charter fishing trips.

This week, wildlife officials visiting an island nesting ground discovered an unusually shocking environmental crime: more than 800 cormorants slaughtered by shotgun fire. Although they have no suspects, officials say they believe the festering conflict between conservation and commerce is responsible for what they are calling one of the worst mass killings of a federally protected bird species in recent decades.

State biologists said that when they went ashore on the uninhabited Little Galloo Island on Wednesday they encountered heaps of carcasses of fledgling cormorants, piles of shotgun shells and starving chicks squawking weakly among the carnage. Clifford Schneider, who directs Lake Ontario projects for the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, said "you see a young chick still laying there alive among all the others that had been wiped out, and you can't help but be moved emotionally."

The mass shooting appeared to be the latest of several recent instances where a once rare species has recovered to the point where it comes into conflict with local interests. On July 23, the town of Carrollton, Texas, without a federal permit, bulldozed a rookery filled with nesting little blue herons, snowy egrets, and other species protected by federal law.

The count of dead birds from that incident could be more than 1,000, said Pamela McCroskery, a spokesman for the Texas Audubon Society.

Around eastern Lake Ontario, fish-eating cormorants have staged a dramatic recovery since the 1950s, when they were nearly wiped out by pesticides and shooting.

In Henderson and other fishing towns near Little Galloo Island, owners of charter boats and other fishing related businesses, joined by some officials, have been pressing the government for several years to allow legalized hunting of cormorants, which they claim are responsible for a drop in populations of smallmouth bass and other popular gamefish.

<br In My Opinion :: RE: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths... http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=90133#90133 First Post: rb2d2xp
Subject: Re: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths...
Posted: 07/17/2005 9:16 AM (GMT -5)
Topic Replies: 20

Here is another article from the same time period as the last.

Government sanctions cormorant cull to appease anglers

More cormorants are to be killed in England after the government today (16 September 2004) introduced a 'shoot to kill' policy, claiming it is preserving freshwater fish for anglers.

The RSPB, which has more than one million members, has sought legal advice on the action it can take to force government to reverse its decision.

In My Opinion :: RE: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths... http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=90131#90131 First Post: rb2d2xp
Subject: Re: Officials Investigating Pelican Deaths...
Posted: 07/17/2005 9:13 AM (GMT -5)
Topic Replies: 20

Here is a rather old article:

August 1, 1998

Officially, the double-crested cormorant is a protected species, its safety guarded by federal law. The link is here. Click on the little Orange XML button that I provided
twice in this topic or you can click on the one at the bottom of every
page. Make sure you do that in Opera and see what happens...

I just looked and there is a Newsgroup utility in Thunderbird too. You
have to set it up using the link that you obtain when you click on the
little Orange XML button here in our community...

In that case I see miles of code but when I post it I see this:

I think you are trying to make this too difficult. There is NOTHING to post. If you click on that XML button, it WILL give you a page of crap that you can ignore. If you click on it in Opera, not only will it open a page of crap, it will also add the link to your Newsfeeds utility and it will open a Newsfeeds page containing all the posts from the community...

If you are using some other utility, your ONLY concern is the URL at the top of the page full of crap. You can ignore everything else. Once you have the URL to the page of crap, you can use it to create a Newsfeed account in your Newsfeed utility in another program like Thunderbird. I don't like the way Thunderbird handles it though. Opera does a much better job with the newfeeds display...

So do you understand how RSS/XML Newsfeeds work now? They work the same at every site that uses them. So if you ever are interested in them, you need to understand how it works here too...

OK, I have done this, put the URL you provide in the subscribe box that came up when I pressed New at Opera. I named it Forums. Is that what I was suppose to do? Now where do I read it?
