In hp I found:
Heat-related damage on the microprocessor, the video processor, or memory DIMMs can cause blue screen errors and system lock ups.
HP
Looks like I better buy that Sata converter and give up burning on this pc A. I guess I can work around not being able to use optical drives on this one. |

LOL, Bob Proffitt can be a SOB sometimes but he does have a point about the chip set (see post 20)
If you post the exact specs for your PC maybe we can help you find the chip set and see if there is an update. Even if not it could be that it is damaged some how and needs reinstalling. If you have the CD that came with your PC the chipset drivers should be on there if you just need a reinstall. Chipset drivers are for your mobo

The link you posted for the HP site: Dave, your PC doesn't reboot or freeze randomly does it for just any old reason does it? Only when you insert a CD or DVD? In which case I don't think what they say at the HP site is your problem.

No it only reboots when disc is inserted. I hope it's not my mb. |

I don't think it's you mobo, else you would be having more problems than you do.

That sounds like a lot of reading, installing and hard work. I'll check it out when I have a lot of time on my hands.
I do have access to all the manuals and data on my pc.
