I recently started using Firefox as my default browser, instead of Mozilla. It won't open the games pop-up windows. When I click on the link, nothing happens in Firefox; the games work fine in Mozilla.
Do I need to chnge some setting in Firefox? I have pop-ups blocked, and 4fxearth.net in the allowed sites list. But the pop-ups on other sites work okay, even without being in the allowed list.
I had the same settings in the JavaScript advanced box, allowing JS to only change images. I've now set it to allow moving and resizing existing windows, but no luck. Anyway, the games are new pop-up windows, not existing ones.
Any other settings I should check? |

I just tried to open the History Game in Firefox and it opened a pop-up window and loaded without any problems. Is your problem with a specific game? I probably haven's changed many of the default settings in Firefox...
These are my Web Settings settings:
..
I don't see any other settings that might affect your ability to play our Games...
Let me know if you want to see any other of my Firefox settings...

My settings are almost the same as yours, NR:
I was trying to play Wheel of Fortune. I'm going to remove the forum domain from the allowed list in JS setting for pop-ups, see if that helps. I know that's counterintuitive, but we're dealing with a computer here. |

NR, I found this error message in the JavaScript Console in Firefox:
Error: Gk_PopTart is not defined
Source File: javascript:Gk_PopTart('activity.php?mode=game&id=16', 'New_Window', '520', '325', 'no')
Line: 1
Dunno if that helps any, but I think it's why my Firefox won't open the game pop-up window. Firefox 1.0.3 is the version.
Anyway, I can always go to the games area with Mozilla or another browser. |

I was at version 1.0.2 in Firefox, so I updated to see if that would make any difference. Even at 1.0.3, Firefox opened a new window for the Wheel of Fortune game and loaded it. I suspect this problem has something to do with Java...
I currently have Java 1.4.2_05b-04 installed. Do you have Java 1.5 installed? Rosalie had a lot of trouble with Java 1.5 with the JigZone puzzles. If you have the newest version of Java installed, I wonder if it could be causing your problems in Firefox too???
I can't imagine there are any Firefox settings that could be causing your problem unless you have Java and Javascript disabled. But since that isn't the case, I would suspect a problem with Java before I would suspect Firefox...
You might want to uninstall BOTH Java and Firefox and reinstall both and see if that helps. I would hate for anyone to have to use different browsers to use the functionality we have here in RCF. I have avoided installing MODs that are browser specific...

Java 1.4.2_04-b05 is my Java version. I opened the Java Plug-in utility
in Control Panel, and saw that it had only IE check-marked in the
browser list. So I put a check next to Mozilla, and next time I fire up
Firefox I'll check the games again. I think that may do the trick.
Thanks, NR!

I hope that does work for you, bigR. I'm surprised that Firefox hadn't complained before if Java wasn't working for it. Let me know if this fixes the problem...

That fixed it, NR! Thanks for the tip. I hadn't considered Java might be the culprit. Somehow I'd thought those games were all Flash, not Java. Dunno why Firefox didn't complain earlier... could be that I hadn't run into any Java applets earlier. And I know that Java works in Mozilla, dunno why it was unchecked in the Java Plug-ins thing in Control Panel. Very odd.... but I'm not going to try to figure it out. |

That is strange that the games still worked in Mozilla but not Firefox if neither was checked in the Java Console. I'm really happy that you don't have to switch between browsers for our site too. I totally avoided any browser specific modifications to this community. I don't believe any functionality should be exclusionary based on the browser someone chooses to use. There are a lot of IE specific MODs out there that I have avoided like the plague...
It seems that we have resolved several problems today. I would consider that a productive day...
