I was on the phpbb site and saw this...
"February 1, 2009 all submissions of phpBB2 MODs will no longer be accepted into the MOD Database. [2.0.x] MODs in Development and [2.0.x] MOD Database Releases will be switched to read only.

May 1, 2009 all of the forums will be closed and hidden from public view. All downloads for phpBB2 MODs will be removed from this site."

Does anyone know if someone is going to try to house all the mods for 2.0?
This feels so much like Microsoft move.

We already have a lot of MODs stored here on this server.  We could store a lot more if people want to submit them here.  I doubt that phpBBHacks.com and other sites will follow suite, but you never know...

I think phpBB3 is a huge mistake and it could be the beginning of the end for phpBB...

I think so too NR, I'm even contemplating going to VBulletin rather than have phpBB3.

If a board is set up with plenty of bells and whistles and as much security as possible then what would be the harm in just using that?
Wouldn't hacking become less because the software is used less as new comers set up newer software?

There is really no need to upgrade if you don't want to.  The software will never stop working over time and if you have it secure and safe, it should be good for many, many years.  The phpBB3 software is more prone to far more problems than the stable phpBB2 version since it was nearly rewritten from scratch.  PhpBB2 has been fully vetted over the years while phpBB3 has a lot of unknowns in it just waiting to be found and corrected...

I hope phpBB comes up with more security patches in the new version of phpBB2 before they completely finish version 2 upgrades...

Hello everyone,

Just in case you would be interested I want to let you know about a new and serious community of phpBB2-oddies that has just been started. It's aim is to give people that donīt want to upgrade to phpBB3 to a meeting point. I think the name says a lot,
phpBB2refugees.com.

Personally I am very glad with this initiative as I am very happy with my phpBB2 board, a result of lots of hours of work and I would be very sad if I ended up with very few resources from the moment phpBB.com drops all support for this wonderful piece of software.

Well, that's it, greetings! wave

Great news Nightrider, very nice seeing you there.

I also hope the site will be a great success, it certainly has a lot of potential and I'm sure it will be a very friendly community. Drathbun is taking a lot of effort to give the best possible opportunity to the site and it's phpBB2-oddies.  Dancing
