This MOD allows you to export all of your PMs to XML format. In phpBB, users can have a certain number of PMs in their Inbox, Sentbox and Savebox. When they are full, we were forced to delete some of the PMs to make room for new ones. But sometimes, there are important PMs and we might want to save the messages. With this MOD, we can now export all our PMs to our hard disks for permanent storage...
I haven't figured out how to use the resulting XML files yet though. I have also requested an Import Add-on to this MOD...

I don't think I'll be using that feature, Nightrider, any time soon. I just looked up how to read XML files using Google. Then I closed the page real quick before the information scrambled my brain! LOL Look at this:

RB, try opening an .xml file in your browser. That should work. |

When I use Opera to open the exported XML file, all the text runs together and the formatting is completely lost. When I open it in Firefox, it looks more like code for a web page. Unless someone can figure out how to read them, I'm not sure if the exported PM files are going to be very useful for anyone here. I asked the developer about it and he mentioned something about writing a program or something. I may have to look around for a better option...

Okay, I know very little about XML files. I guess the help files for some of my software, must be coded differently, since they open in Mozilla and work normally. Or I'm having a "senior moment" and misremembering it. |

You could help me out if you have any PMs in your Inbox, Sentbox, Saved, or Outbox folders. You could export your messages to XML and see if they will open and display properly in Mozilla or any other browser of your choosing...
In Opera, all the formatting is lost. I tried to display the same file in Firefox and it looked like code for a web page. I don't have Netscape or Mozilla installed so I can't test the exported file there...
I would be interested in hearing if anything you have will display these exported files properly. If we can't find something that can do it, then the MOD seems totally useless to us at this moment. If that is the case, I might as well remove it...

NR, where is the export to XML control or button or whatever? I can't find it. |

Sorry bigR. Last night while I was trying to figure out what was causing the General Error on the Index page, I removed the last few MODs hoping that one of them was causing it. But none were, so that left me even more baffled. I got lucky figuring out that problem this time...
Now that everything should be back to "normal" again, I will re-add the MODs that I removed this morning so that we can try the test with the Exported XML pages again. I'm very tired right now, so it may have to wait until tomorrow...

NR, no rush. Don't worry about the XML stuff. Let's wait until you're rested up. |

Ok, I re-installed the Export PMs to XML MOD. If you can figure out a way to view the saved files in a formatted layout, I would be very interested in hearing how you accomplished it...
