Has anyone upgraded to phpbb3 yet?
I'm in the process of designing a template. I have converted my forum over to it in a different folder so I can test it.
I will lose a few mods though, but that doesn't really matter. |

Havn't tried it. Been looking at it, I like that it will intergrate with CMS. Some of it is what I have already put in. I wouldn't like the loss of EZmod. |

No, I'm afraid I'll mess up all the hard work I and so many others have put in to get the current version right. If I don't have to, I probably won't. |

Install it into a different folder called test for example. Then you can use the inbuilt converter to convert your current phpbb2 database. That's only if you want to test it with all your content from your phpbb2 board. |

Oooooooooooh, seems like I will be having some play time this weekend. Glenn are you using it? Any thoughts either way, pros - cons?? Should I upgrade? I saw phpBB's forum and I saw some nifty features in PM at least. But I have no clue what they are running. |

Yeah it does look great Glenn. It snowed here and we may be getting more. I might be able to play with this this weekend. Ok, my current version is heavy on MODs. Is there a way to do an upgrade and NOT mess up those MODs? Can you let me know how much you MOD's you have and how easy the upgrade was?? Thank you. |

You will lose any mods you have installed but phpbb3 does come with most of the mods I had on phpbb2 as standard. In upgrading you need to decide whether you can do without some mods. I lost quiz mod, birthday list, phoogle map, directory and a few other minor ones.
There's quite a few in development. Also there isn't an easymod for phpbb3 so you need to add mods manually. They are in a different format too. Took me a little while to figure them out. I have installed a few mods on it and didn't have any problems. But remember, you will be doing them manually.
Look through what comes standard with phpbb3 and look at what mods you have and what you can live without. |
