I decided to dust off my paints and paint a new canvas. It is a picture I made with graphics. I first got the idea from an actual photo I took one great day on Lake Erie. Someone painted a picture of the scene and gave it to me, and that inspired me to paint my own, only much larger at 30x24.
I can't prove I painted it, you'll have to take my word for it spiderman.

30x24!? I didn't realize your paintings were that large, you really can't tell just from a picture. That must take a lot of paint.
Clicking it in the post to get a full size shot of it gives a much better view! I like it Dave, you did a good job. Been a long time since you painted isn't it?
BTW, I swiped a few of your pictures to make puzzles a little later. Along with the ones of your yard. I didn't realize you had done so many paintings, there must be about 4 or 5 pages of them!

That is an awesome picture. I tried to paint a sunset once when I was young. That's when I realized that I was never going to be an artist...

Thanks for compliments. I am starting another one about the same size. If it turns out it will be another one of my graphics pictures, about the same color sceme, orangish. The one with trees and a bass jumping.
Niterider, its something one has to develope more than anthing. I could repeat a picture and since I learned how, the next one would be easy. Whats hard is learning how to paint each picture for the first time. Thats why its not so impressive to see artist paint a picture realy fast, its a dublicate. I thought about painting the ship again to sell but if it doesn' sell I will have it sitting around like other dublicates. I usually give them away. Anyway, I looked all my graphics pictures over and decided to atempt that golden colored picture of mine. It will be hard to get the appeal the original has.

Based on the first picture, I doubt that I would have done much better if I had repainted it a hundred times. It just wasn't ever going to be a Rembrandt...

Fish, you truely have a gift to share. I like the picture with the fox &the rowboat with three small birds on the bow.
The golden picture has a draw with the golden light aimed at the bird in the foreground,Fish. Beyond beautiful.
NR,if you buy a book called drawing from the right side of your brain...you can learn how easy it is to draw like an artist. Once you learn perspective, shadows & basics, medium is a matter of practice.
The bookshows before & after pictures of individuals artwork. You'd be shocked at some & the huge change in the outcomwe! |

I actually know a lot about perspective and shadows. But translating that knowledge into an artistic skill isn't nearly as simple as one would hope. With the right tools, I can design a building in perfect perspective. But turning that mechanical drawing into an artistic work is another matter. I could never make my drawing look like it was real like a true artist could do...
