| On my forum, i use to have a flag to say if you havent read the post yet, it use to stay there for a while, but its so annoying say i went out this morning id get back in a few hours time and the icon would of gone so i dunno what post have been replied to or anything, its annoying! I did once try to add a mod called unread post flags, but it kept causing problems with my forum so dunno if you remember NR we decided to delete it! But iv noticed on here the flags last at least a day unles iv read the post |

Unfortunately, the phpBB software does a lousy job keeping track of unread posts. If you close your browser, then it loses track of anything posted while you had it running, so you basically start over every time you shut down your browser. You seem to be describing a different problem though. I'm definitely not smart enough to fix the flaw in the phpBB tracking code though...
Unfortunately, the Keep Unread Flags MOD is a real nightmare too. One of the MOD authors is a friend, so I really wanted it to be easy to install and work well once installed. I tried installing it here in RCF, but it was too much of a PITA to deal with, so I removed it and never looked back. The KUF MOD has been updated MANY times since then, which tells me that there were lots and lots of problems with it. Maybe by now, they have worked out most of the flaws in the code and it might be worth trying again...

Hehe I just thought I would add - Firefox has a neat way of getting around this if you have to intentionally shut down your browser for whatever reason but don't want to lose all your new posts.
Instead of just closing it the normal way, goto Task Manager (control, alt, del) and then shut down Firefox that way instead (ie. forced shutdown). Then when you boot up Firefox next, it will give you the option to "restore session" - new posts intact and all
Not sure if this can be done with other browsers but I know it definately works with FF, has gotten me out of pickles when I have had to get off in a hurry but not wanted to lose all new content to the forum!
Cheers,
Nikki |

Hopefully the current version is much easier to install and more stable. Don't hold your breath though. Merlin and Ptirhiik both had their hands in this MOD, and they both tend to complicate things far too much...
