Hi ^^
What would be the best way to wipe a Harddrive?
I'm going to re-install Windows, and then install Ubuntu on a seperate partition.
Thanks,
- Poomie |

You can boot to a DOS disk and run the fdisk command to destroy and recreate your partitions. You could use a W98 CD if you have it or you can download a boot CD software from the Internet to do it. I use a program called PartitionExpert to do the same thing. I could make a copy available to you if you need it....

| NR Do you know if that program is easier to deal with than Partition Magic? I have version 7 but am always looking for something easier. |

Well I know that G-Parted is a good software.
But I ended up using the Windows XP Install CD to format the HDD, and then installed Windows.
Tonight, I'm going to be installing Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.

I really like PE a lot more than any other Partitioning program I've tried. You can install it and Windows and you can boot from it if you burn it to CD as well. It is extremely user friendly and works as advertised. I highly recommend it...

I tried to boot to Ubuntu but I could never get it to work on my PC. I have a problem that I cannot pinpoint that prevents me from trying some of these things. rb2d2 had no trouble booting to Ubuntu though...
I hope the install goes smoothly for you Poomie...

Yes, the install went perfectly.
Except now, I can't connect to my wireless router.
I enter the WEP code, but it just asks for it again after a while.
I'll try again later.
Although, I noticed that I am in dire need of a new monitor =P

I think you can get very good technical support from the Ubuntu site if that is the OS giving you the problem. If you cannot connect to the wireless router using XP, you might need to install some drivers that would have come with the router. Hopefully you have worked all of this out by now...

Ahaha yeah, I worked it out, and am using Ubuntu as I speak ^^
I'm reaching download speeds of over 500 kb/sec - a speed I would never get in Windows!

That's awesome. Other than the faster speed, how do you like Ubuntu so far? I wish I could get it to working on my PC...
