Never mind found it   
Can't find the answer by searching, but is it possible to create a test forum without using another database?
I'm trying to help someone who is new to mods and she wants to do another board to test them out. I don't know if she has any other databases we're talking via PM's so far  |

Yes, you can create a Test board without using a different database. But that is not an ideal situation for several reasons. First, some hosts limit the maximum size of the database. Our last host limited us to 100 MB. So if the database contains tables for two boards and if there is a maximum limit on the size, that could prove to be a problem down the road when space becomes a concern...
Second, you want the MOD install to be as identical on your Test board as your Live board. But if you have two separate boards sharing the same database, then you will have to have a different table prefix for each board. So you will have to adjust the MOD script whenever it includes SQL queries to point to the proper table prefix. If there is ever a lapse and they forget, that could pose install problems...
If they are limited to only one database, then either they have no choice but to use the same database for their Live and Test boards or if they are using a Free Host, they can create another site with the same host and set everything up the same. The Live and Test sties would not have the same domain name, but everything else could be nearly identical...

Thanks NR, I think it will be a bit beyond her as she hasn't even got as far as installing any mods herself.
I'm trying to convince her that its really not that hard - it just looks like it will (says she who often asks the silliest of questions ) so she wants to make a new bosrd so she can give it a go.
