Hi again Nightrider! It's been awhile and I have learned a lot since we talked last, but I am now stuck on this issue and it's way over my head.
First, these are the errors I am getting in my error log.

I have a new site now (still have the other one you helped me out with, but this new one is a public one) We started off being hosted with one company, and after having 2 days of extremely slow service, we decided to switch servers. I thought at first that it might have something to do with the server switch, but to be honest no one ever told me they were getting any errors before the switch, and I didn't know to check the error log. So now I am not so sure it was only after the switch that they started. My private site is hosted with the same company and when I checked over there I was also getting the same errors. But I guess not as many because it's a small private site with not as much traffic to generate them.
I have done probably a total of 10 hours of googling and reading up on these errors, I have contacted the server a total of 4 or 5 times about this, but they can't seem to help me.
From my googling I have learned that a few things could be causing this. The first and most obvious being incomplete headers. To my knowledge that is not the case here. The second being the file attributes. I have double and triple checked those, and our host has also double checked those, and they are ok to our knowledge. I have also read that if these incomplete header errors are being generated from more than one .php (or .cgi) script, then it is most likely a server issue, and not a php or cgi coding issue. The problem is I can't prove that to the server without knowing more about it.
We are also experiencing two other very weird issue's that I am not sure are related to these errors, but very well could be. I figure the most information you know the better.
We go through times where the site is extremely slow. It's never a certain time, and never for the same amount of time, there is no pattern to it. It's very in and out. It could sometimes lasts for minutes, sometimes almost an hour. I have also asked the server about this slow down issue many times and every time they tell me they don't see the slowness on their end. But it's not just me because my members let me know everyday when we have these slow times.
The other thing which just baffles me is sometimes the site will absolutely refuse to load when I am in Firefox, but if I open IE it works. I have confirmed at least one other person that this is happening to. But what makes it even more weird, is there are also times I will be in IE, posting away, and all of a sudden it won't load anymore. So I try Firefox again and it works. Talk about confusing!!
I hope that I have not rambled on too much here. I tried my best to figure this out, but now I need help from someone else with more experience.
Thank you for any insight you can give me into these types of errors. |

Other than these log entries, do you encounter any errors in your forums? These log entries could be caused when your members close a forum page before it is fully loaded. So it is possible that these errors are nothing to be concerned about...
The slowness that you see from time to time is most likely a problem with your host servers. It is possible that your host FTP and/or Database servers get bogged down from time to time, causing your pages to load much slower. It happens to us too, but at least our host acknowledges that it is their problem. They would be hardpressed to claim otherwise though since I installed the Page Generation MOD to tell me at the bottom of every page how their servers are performing. You might want to install that MOD on your board too...

yes, just today I have gotten the 500 error probably 6 times. Is that what you mean? We do see these errors on the site, not just in the logs. And my members like to tell me every single time they get them, lol. At first it was a basic error that said something about contacting the webmaster and checking the error log. I fixed that by creating a more user friendly error page after realizing not having one just generated an extra error in my log. But yes, we do get the 500 server error page I created while trying to post, refresh, or going into the admin index. For me, just refreshing gets rid of the error page and takes me back to whatever I was doing. But I have been told by some that they have to close out the browser and re-open it in order to get back to the forum index. So what you said makes some sense. Could there be something going on that makes the page not load and in turn makes people close it before it's done? It just seems like we were all doing just fine until about 10 days ago, and we all get errors a good 5 times a day. My other site that is private gets these errors, but we don't have the slow down of loading pages at all. It's almost instantaneous. They are hosted by the same company, but on different servers within the hosting company. Granted there are only 30 members on that site, and 80 on the public one, but would that make that much of a difference to cause the loading issue?
So if someone else is in the middle of a process closes their browser before it's done, would that make me get the error if I am one of the ones on at the moment and in the middle of something?? Or would that just put the error in the log? |

| I just wanted to let you know that after having a really slow time on Saturday, I pretty much threw a hissy fit to the server company and told them if they can't help me I would have to find another server. They switched us to one of there other servers and the difference has been AMAZING. I don't know what the problem was on that one server or why they couldn't tell they even had a problem, but the difference is amazing and so far no more premature end of headers errors. |
