Posted this in the other topic but wasn't sure if it was seen.
I thought this was going to be as simple as cloning the style and adding it to the template, but it's not as easy as that.
The screen shot below is how I want my site to look. This style applied to my subportal template with the navigation down the left side as it has always been.
I have tried everything that I can think of including editing the css but this didn't work, but I now realise there are images etc... to add
I got the template from http://www.zarron.com/ and its called CHARCOAL2
I have seen the template called AIRHEAD applied to a subportal template. See http://www.addyourfeed.com/
Is there a way to do this? I'm also confused because I've seen themes, templates and styles, what the difference? |

Those terms are used interchangably. Themes, templates, and styles are all the same as skins...
If you want to turn Charcoal2 to a Portal look like your subPortal template, you would have to modify the overall_header so that it would add a left side column. You may also need to add code to the overall_footer.tpl file to terminate the left column code. You should be able to leave the top header as it is though...

Would it be easier to modfiy a clone of the current template I am using, like I did with the friday 13th special template? The only thing I was able to change on it to look like the charcoal template was the background image behind where the forum name is.
If the charcoal theme gets modify, i'd have to reinstalled.
I may have a proposition for you in the next day or 2. If I was to donate soem money for your services, would you be willing to look into doing this for me? But only if it's not too much work for you. I just have to work out how much money I have left after I pay some bills.

I cloned my current template and called it av8rportal. I uploaded the overall header file from the charcoal theme to the cloned portal template and it looks like this-
As you can see I still need to add the left navigtion to it. I was hoping it would of when I switched overall header files. But, it looks like there are more files to switch. Can you tell me what I would need to switch, because there's still some things that don't look right. You can check it out for yourself if you wish by selecting the av8rportal template. |

The overall_header.tpl file from your subPortal template does include the left column for the portal. So if you copied that code to the Charcoal2 template, it should work correctly. However, you would need to correct the top header graphic...

This will take a bit of trial and error...
So try this:
You will need to remove the txt extension from the filename before it will work:
overall_header.tpl.txt
