I currently run Mummybrain.com and am very happy with how it's going.
Anyway, now i want to expand, and i want to create another forum, i've got the new domain name.
Here's my question, can i create just a sub directory of my current webhosting (eg, my forum at the moment is www.mummybrain.com/phpBB/) or do i have to buy a whole new hosting package for this second forum? I have lots of room space available, and i also can have more databases, so from that regard it isn't a problem, but then it would show eg. www.mummybrain.com/newforumname, instead of www.newforumname.com?
Hope i haven't confused you too much. |

Hi Rizzo. I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to say I like the look of your forum. It looks very fun and inviting. |

If you have the space and can create multiple databases, you can create as many forums on your domain as you want. Here in 4fxearth.net, we have the ability to create multiple sub-domains, so I can create a forum on each sub-domain. I created our Test and vanilla forums on separate sub-domains of 4fxearth.net...

Yes, but i don't want it to have anything to do with mummybrain, i want it to be a whole new site altogether. |

Another soultion would be to get a domain name such as www.newdomain.com and redirect this to you subdomain address. make sense?

Makes sense to me! I too have been wondering about this subdomain business without using my present domain name. NOW it's beginning to sink in.
Thank you, Aussie!

depending on who your host is - you can have what they call a Pointer domain which is having 2 separate url addresses / sites using one package. Since you purchased a new url address then the pointer domain would only use that address and not your mommy one at all.
You best bet would be to contact your host to see if they allow it and if so they should help you with how to set it up or may even set it for you. My host allows it and also sets it up for you so it won't hurt to ask your host.
Good luck! |
