Ok KeeKee. After a small struggle, I managed to get the Journal MOD installed on your Home-n-Family forum. I first had to change the path in EM Settings to include www and forums. The old path that we used when we installed EM no longer worked...
Then to install the MOD, EM said that it couldn't create a folder. But by going backwards and trying to process the MOD again, it said it couldn't create a different folder. I looked in the processed and backups folders and the folders were being created, so I don't know why you're receiving that error message. I just went back and forth 3 or 4 times until all the folders were successfully created. That is a PITA, but I don't see how to fix it at this time...
Then the Journal MOD had some serious errors of it's own. It had a couple of IN-LINE statements that didn't have the IN-LINE FIND part too. After adding the IN-LINE FIND part, the Journal MOD installed successfully, except that EM had to modify some of the SQL statements to get them to work on your database. I allowed EM to do its thing and it appears to have been successful...
After installing the Journal MOD, I noticed that the text was missing in the overall_header.tpl menu. After checking the MOD, I found that the MOD author forgot to include an entry for the menu option. So modified the MOD script to include it. Then I Restored the Backups using EM's Restore Backups utility, then I reinstalled the Journal MOD again. It seems to be working now...

Wow that was a lot of work, I wouldn't have expected you to go thru that, you could have said it has too many problems. I hate putting you out that much. Not that I don't appreciate it the thing works fine from what I have done wiht it. I went in also from another member name and could read.
I did notice one little other text thing. I'll go look for it sometime but they didn't put a spacer or whatever between journal and teh word on the left of it in the radio buttons row.
I'm not a programmer and it looks like you almost have to be to install some of this stuff. I only have a couple more things I want to add and people will just have to be happy with smilies LOL
Thanks seems too little Nightrider but it's all I have. |

Glenn I typed Journals in the search on the phpbb community and one came up called Journal System.
You might want to try the other one Rizzo used. |

Yeah that's the one I was thinking of but looks like the members don't want it. But that's ok. |

I'm used to troubleshooting problems, so this really wasn't a huge ordeal for me. I can see how it could be a problem for those with a lot less experience with it...

Give me a link to the page with the problem and I will try to figure it out...

Yes, some of these MODs can be quite complicated and some don't even work, so a programming background definitely comes in handy. But since you are using EM, you can learn the easy EM tricks you can use to install even the most difficult MODs. If the MOD doesn't work correctly after it is installed, then it helps to be able to dig into the code to figure out why. Most aren't able to do that though, so their option is to Restore the Backups and find another similar MOD that does the trick, if one exists...
There are a lot of MODs that I have installed, then removed because I either didn't like them or they just didn't work correctly. I haven't seen too many MODs that I just couldn't live without. If the MOD doesn't work, I don't typically try to fix it unless others want/need it too...

Well maybe before I start on it I should ask about the quick reply mod with a dictionary mod next to it. Like we did here (except a little more centered up).
http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=77650&threadid=441585
I think that could go in there even with the smilies next to the QP and still look nice. I'll be looking this eve to see if the same script can be used, I doubt it.
Beyond that I want to put in the code that stops moderators from seeing peoples IP address. And plan 2 (maybe 3) drop down menus in the header of the boards one will lead to the other message boards and the second will lead to quick shopping pages on my site.
This project has been on the shelf too long time to get off my asp and get it going. |
