Gather round my fellow hardcore computer junkies and friends and let your opinion be heard! Todays thoughts... Screensavers.. Are they really helpful in "saving" that screen of yours or is it pretty much for fun and show?

Things that make you go Hmmmm...

Cheers!   headbang

I don't use a screen saver, so to speak.  My new DELL has it's own screen saver and many times I use the Power Options shortcut on my desktop if I want to save energy sooner than the DELL option.

If I figure I'll be away even longer (like sleeping or listening to talk radio in the bedroom as opposed to here whilst on the new boob tube), many times I'll use Stand By so I don't have to physically power up on the CPU.  Simple press of my space bar brings things back to life in the latter case.  Smile

I think nowadays screensavers are just for fun. Mine comes on after a while, then after another while, the monitor goes black.

What does the "thank goodness for safemode" mean? I don't know what safe mode has to do with keeping the monitor from "burning in" an image.

Not safemode... but Power save mode, when your screen just goes black and you hit a key or move the mouse to bring your desktop back... Sorry for the confusion hehe.. my bad!

I just use Backgrounds on my desktop. I don't like the screensaver cutting in if I am reading a book on line or working a crossword or jigsaw or what ever.

I never use a screensaver.  The default screensavers that come with Windows get old and annoying after a while and the ones you find for free on the Internet often times come with spyware and other evil "wares" included.  It's just not worth it for me to use them...

Shame on you

I have Win XP and I use the rotating screensavers.  I have selected my choices from my "My Pictures" folder and have a constant=changing oicture to view on my desktop.  I like to just sit and watch the pictures rotate as do all my visitors.  It's just an added pleasure for my computing.  Unpleasant experiences like I ran into with SE leave a bad taste in my mouth and these little pleasant experiences help to offset the bad.

I'm with you, Bobby.  Doesn't really take much effort to find or discover and enjoy small pleasant moments.  We need to truly appreciate and enjoy those small pleasant experiences in our life to make it richer.  Hardly worthwhile staring at the ceiling, twiddling our thumbs waiting for the "big" one to come along.

What if it never does?!?!?!!? crybaby

I very seldom use a screen saver and when I do it's for fun.  Right now I don't even have any wallpaper.  LOL, could it be that my PC is so seldom idle that a screen saver is useless to have?  Nawww, it couldn't be that!

Applause

Well, now that there's been a handful of responses to the whole screensaver issue. And i haven't even stated my opinion.. guess it's about time huh?

And the grand answer is No, this PC junkie doesn't use screen savers.. used to back in the 95 and 98 days but.. not so much anymore. my monitor just goes into power save mode and takes a rest till i'm ready to view the wild wild web once again. Smile
