The following is my setup:

As a Master I have my brand new DVD burner, PX712A.

As a slave I have my old Plextor CD burner (16X10X40).

I have the sound cable from the motherboard (I have the sound card onboard) attached to the DVD player.

I can see the DVD image but no sound.

Any suggestions welcome.

Unplug the sound cable.  Install WinDVD or whatever software came with the DVD.  You should be good to go.

Post back if this or some other suggestion worked.  We all want to know how this comes out.

You were darn right rb2d2xp (couldn't you find a longer name? LOL!). I actually called Plextor today and they told me to install one of the softwares that came with the player. And then it worked! It was a decoder that missed. Since I usually don't install any software (apart from what's absolutely necessary) that comes with any hardware, this caused me the problem. But the support at Plextor is very good! You should work for them!  Wink

Hey Spider, most call me RB on here.  Glad you got your DVD working!!

Does Plextor have an opening?  If the price is right I might give them shot at  me.   Why not, I've been shot down before.  LOL

I'm thinking of getting a DVD also, I don't have one on my PC.  If I run into trouble I'll call on you now that you're an expert!

Hey RB (or would you prefer R&B? LOL!)

Newegg has a great offer right now ($3 cheaper than I paid a couple of days ago) and a mail in rebate. You have to purchase it before October 30 though. But I can almost promise you that if you get this one, you have the best burner out there... Plextor has been the best brand for very long and I have burnt soooo many CD's (as you know) on my first burner (16/10/40) and it is still working like a Swiss clock! I highly recommend Plextor for burners.

I should also add that the reason for the low price on this burner now, is that Plextor (sounds like I work for them, huh?) now has a 16X DVD-burner on the market. You can find cheaper DVD's out there, but I doubt you can find as good burner for that price!

Just be aware of that it may come with black front... To me that's not an issue, although I'd prefer a silver front due to the color of my case, but I don't have the computer to look at, but to work at and of course, to keep in touch with this forum! Wink

Don't ever buy a Pacific Digital product.  If they are willing to cut corners like this, then I don't think you can trust anything from them.  The DVD was bad out of the box, so I guess that says something about the Pacific Digital quality.  I just finished installing the replacement yesterday.  It can burn DVDs now, which is a step up from the previous Pacific Digital DVD burner...

What DVD did you replace it with? I can't believe that they actually sell a DVD burner without a software containing the necessary decoder! I will definitely keep that name in mind for future references...   Evil or Very Mad

BTW check out the reviews of the Plextor! I didn't even check those out before I bought it... I certainly agree with them though.  walk

I didn't buy this DVD burner.  A friend bought it and it didn't work for him.  So he bought a new one and was planning to throw this one away.  Since the DVD burner was still under warranty, I told him I would take it and send it back for a replacement.  He didn't have any desire to deal with it, so he gave it to me...

Once I confirmed that the DVD burner didn't work on my PC either, I had to jump through hoops to get an RMA number from Pacific Digital before they would accept it for replacement.  I can understand why my friend didn't want to deal with PD.  After about 3-4 weeks, the replacement DVD burner arrived from Pacific Digital...

I installed the DVD burner and the included software.  I could see immediately that it was now working properly since it recognized the DVD in its drive.  So I launched the software shipped with it, only to find that it is ONLY designed for creating your own DVD movies.  You cannot VIEW a DVD with it though...

RealOne tries to download the codecs to play the DVD but claims that the necessary DVD software isn't installed.  WMP sends me to a page to download the software.  The cheapest costs $14.95...

I reread the box to see what it claims to ship.  Sure enough, the box makes no claims that there is any software included to view DVDs on the burner.  What they do list is deceiving though.  At first glance, you might think that the software to watch DVDs is included.  This is what is says on the box:
Code:
Full Featured DVD Player

A host of features lets you experience the movie theater on you {note: spelled wrong} home PC.  Easy to use functions and Dolby surround sound support, will make your DVD creations and home movies come to life.

Great!  That sounds like it has all you need to watch DVDs, at least at first glance.  To me, this is deceiving.  At the very top it states:
Code:
A complete set of DVD creation and Recording Software

But it never mentions anything about viewing DVDs at the top.  Now I know why...
