I step out into the Wal Mart parking lot,
a single orange rose in one hand for Grandma,
and the teddy bear I bought for myself in the other.
The bite in the air is excruciatingly harsh.
The frantic footsteps of a woman in heels close behind
bring my current thoughts to an unnerving halt
and I tell myself that I don't want to become that,
as I am casually walking towards my car.
I stop at Quizno's for dinner, (To share with Grandma)
reassuring the clerk that there is no rush
and I head for Grandma's.
She meets me at the door with a red rose
and a Valentine's Day card,
but my hands are already full.
I enter the house and eat.
When we finish, I head back home,
to its painful emptiness.
Mom's Valentine hasn't come yet.
It'll be here tomorrow... |

That's sad, sweet_entropy. But I can see a strong person. Centered, hopefull and caring.
Excellent prose, BTW.

Prose is writing distinguished from poetry by its greater variety of rhythm and its closer resemblance to the patterns of everyday speech. The word prose comes from the Latin prosa, meaning straightforward. This describes the type of writing that prose embodies, unadorned with obvious stylistic devices. Prose writing is usually adopted for the description of facts or the discussion of ideas. ...

I'm glad that you are happy of course, sweet_entropy, but please excuse me if I worry a bit about the age difference (I can't help it, I'm a mom.)
Please understand all I have to go by are a few typed words and those few typed words raise all kinds of questions for me. The biggest is this: Is this man leaving a wife and kids for a younger woman?
Please, sweet_entropy, understand where I'm coming from, I only want the best for you and I have to tell you so far I'm not sure about this at all..

He's divorced and has been so for several years and has custody of his son. I find it strange you would have a problem with this. I've had his background checked, and he's clean. I've told my mom and grandma about this, and they don't have a problem with the age difference. (Which I find strange... anywho...) |

I almost missed this post, I'm sorry sweet_entropy, for some reason it was marked read.
Now about your wonderful man, I don't know him as well as your mom and grandma and had no details at all. You must admit you didn't give much information in your post. I know they say all the time that age difference doesn't matter, and some times it doesn't, but it's the exception rather than the rule. That big a difference in age just naturally raises at least a small flag. I'm glad that in this case there isn't any reason to worry.
If your mom and grandma approve then of course I'm very very happy for you! I wish much joy and happiness to you both.

oh... no problem. *grin* My mom is a private investigator and my grandma is a former police department dispatcher. He is such a sweetheart. I must admit, I was very suspicious about his intentions when we first interacted, but now I am in absolutely no doubt. I had stopped looking... I can't believe it. Talk about a knight in shining armor. |
