Many of the same MODs listed in the phpBB MOD Database can also be found at phpBBHacks.com. So it wouldn't be surprising if you installed a MOD that is listed in both places which contains the exact same flaw...

It sounds like someone copied the MOD script from the other, including the flawed code. It would be amazing if two different MOD authors made the same mistake in the same place for MODs that do the same thing...
I have seen MOD authors who use different aliases. It's possible that this is the same author even though the names are different...
