I recently went to a site that someone posted , Skinny's WAV Collection @ http://www.skinnyshideaway.com/, and D/L songs to folders. My Son-In-Law wanted some Johnny Cash songs so I filled a folder with songs by him. When I right-clicked on the folder it opened Windows Media Player. I used it to burn the music to a CD. I had never used WMP before and am not sure why it opened this time. It had never done this before. I had always used the defajult player, Musicmatch or Nero or Windows' built-in program to burn with. Why did Windows Media Player open this time? I had not changed any settings or preferences. WMP sure is simple and easy to use. |

You may have updated recently and during the install it made itself the default player and burner. Check the preferences or options whatever they happen to be called in that program. During the install it probably displayed setting or provided a button to access the setting and told you to check or uncheck your preferred settings. Like most of us you probably just ignored it.

I have been unable to find preferences or options in WMP. Would it be under one of these tabs? I went through all of them but have been unable toi find it.

The check mark for Add music files to library when played may be what cause WMP to offer you the burn option (if that's what it did, I'm not too clear on that from what you said).
The file extensions assigned to WMP would be found in File Types and if the file type you clicked on is in that list that's why WMP launched in the first place.
Also check devices. I notice mine has Nero but when I tested the player it showed Roxio as burner. I didn't know I had Roxio. LOL I sure didn't download or install it.

If you want to burn it with your recorder open the recorder and then program what you want to record into it.... I prefer the recorder myself |

I wasn't dissatisfied with Windows Media Player as a burning tool. I was just curious about why it changed and became my default burning program. I was very pleased with the ease with which WMP was to use. You just click burn and away it goes. |

I'm not clear as to which recorder you are talking about Katy. |

I was referring to your roxio or whatever you have...I have Record Now and it is very easy...... I like the record now because you can be sure to set it so it will play in you tape recorder... Sometimes the WMP doesn't do that...But if WMP works OK for you than... never mind |

I still use record now to copy discs, works great. I use roxio 6 to make and burn my movies to DVD. I use roxio 8 sometimes to backup files, not "backup" just burn to save new files. I have quite a few programs to burn with, and they all get along great togther since I dumped nero. |
