I just found out that the phpBB Developers had to pull the initial 2.0.18 Update file and replace it with a Repackaged version. Â Check your Update file to see what version you installed. Â If you used the 1.0.0 Update, then you probably are experiencing some weird logging problems on your board too. Â Supposedly that was corrected in the 1.0.1 version of the 2.0.18 Update file. Â Based on what I've been reading tonight, I'm not so sure though...

Man, that 2.0.18 update has been nothing but a problem from the word go hasn't it?! You were smart to uninstall it.
I wonder would Web Hosts threaten to shut down a site if the phpBB board is not updated to that version?
Ev1 threatened to do that one time, remember? And in reality we WERE updated.

Hosts have shut down boards that weren't updated with Critical Updates for severe security problems. That happened a lot with the 2.0.12-2.0.15 Updates. The phpBB Developers fixed a flaw that allowed hackers to hack the hosts servers in 2.0.12. They broke that fix in 2.0.13 and 2.0.14 so they had to fix it again in 2.0.15. A lot of sites were shut down that weren't updated. Gino was one of them...
It is really difficult for a host to know whether the site is updated though. According to our database, this board is running on 2.0.18 right now. That's not true though. I didn't roll back the database changes when I rolled back the file modifications...

What version of the Update did you install Glenn? I was unlucky enough to get the 1.0.0 version. Apparently they pulled that version and repackaged it as the 1.0.1 version. But since this Update took forever for them to create and since most people are alerted when a new Update is available, I imagine that a great many people downloaded the original flawed version of the 2.0.18 Update just like I did. There are a lot of people complaining of display problems as well as login issues. I have seen the same behavior. Hopefully that problem doesn't exist in the repackaged version of the 2.0.18 Update...

Normally I would say that you should never skip an update. But after the struggles I've had with the 2.0.18 so far and all the horror stories I'm reading about login problems, I'm not convinced that skipping the 2.0.18 Update would be a bad idea. It may cause a problem with future updates and MODs though if you skip the 2.0.18 Update...

Yes, the new MODs will still install in 2.0.17. You might have to make some adjustments in the MOD files if they are modifying code that the 2.0.18 Update modified. That shouldn't be any more difficult to do than what we already have to do when you run into code that has been modified by other MODs...
