Here is what happened: It froze up on a website with a heavy loading map. Then it went black. Then came back on and I was able to get out of that site but it froze again, then turned black. So I gave it a hard start, it showed the graphics data as it usually does at the beginning of boot, but then started boot over and over and wouldn't get past the nvidia screen.
I am thinking its the power supply, what do you think rb?
Someone else told me it wasn't the ps, but mobo or hd.
I did order a new ps so I will find out.
---------------
I should be able to drop this hd into my other pc, replacing the 2nd without having to configure anything? Or could I add it as a 3rd since I have free cables available? I need to get some stuff off of it that may not be on latest backup. |

Yes sounds like something with your PC. Could be the PSU going bad but I don't think so. I would say bad RAM or video card. Since you already have a power supply coming, try that first.
Can you boot into Safe Mode?
As for the HDD, yes you can connect it in another PC (it will show up as another drive) and get your stuff off.

Dave, in the mean time try removing all sticks of RAM except one and try booting up. If it still won't boot up correctly take that stick of RAM out and put one of the others in. If the PC still won't boot up it's probably something else.
At least something you can try.

I doubt its the ram since its the orginals and I haven't added any. Could be the video card, it is getting old, about 7 years maybe. I may have another vid card I can put in. Maybe I'll pull it and see if I see any burn spots. |

That doesn't sound good. Well you don't want to format it that's for sure.
Odd, you said you put an old HDD into the "broken" PC and the same thing happens. Could both the PC and the HDD gone bad at the same time? The HDD could have damaged Windows files.....
You could try putting the HDD back into the broken machine and see if you can do a repair. Here are instructions for Win7, you can find instructions for other OS by Goggling.

That's about all I have to offer, Dave.

Did your computer make a beeping type of sound before it reboots? Your comp will make a beep sound in most cases when something is wrong, there are different beeps each is a code telling you what is wrong. |

You lost me rb. Both HDD are good.
No beeps, just keeps rebooting. I am looking at reviews on new computers and see where people get the same symptoms and its always the MObo that is bad. I ordered a jumper to use the hdd as an external, is supposed to work for retrieving data. |

Dave you confused me too when you said ....

I was thinking you were talking about the HDD from the rebooting PC when you placed it into another PC to see if you could pull your stuff off..... Sounds like content can't be seen.
Can you boot into Safe Mode?
