Win7 started out just fine when I first installed it, no problems at all. It went through about 175 updates including IE 11. I think it was a later Windows update that caused the problem. I read where one guy solved his problem by uninstalling the last update but that didn't help others. One guy changed some registry entries to solve his problem but it didn't work for others. I didn't try any, just didn't want to waste my time messing with the problem since I won't be using the OS for very long anyway. Mostly I just want to see what all there is new.
I have an evaluation copy of Win7 installed in a Virtual Box on my Main PC, I think it was 2009 or 2010 when it was offered. Before the final copy of Win7 came out. It's working perfect. I have AVG installed and I just a minute ago updated it with no problem. Course that copy of Win7 is no longer legal, can't get any of the Windows updates and each time I launch it I'm asked to validate it but I just click Ask Me Later. LOL
At any rate I think it's definitely a step up from Vista from what I read. Hopefully I never have to upgrade from XP but if I do I can live with Wn7.

I've been having problems with WORD after an update awhile back. I found a fix but it still hangs and crashes if I don't let it sit for a few minutes after opening. |

If it continues to be a pain in the neck and gets to be too much you might want to try Open Office. It's free.

Open Office has a suite of applications like MS Office.

That computer doesn't have sound. I think it needs a new driver but I haven't hooked it up to go on line yet. Thats the first problem. I was letting andrew play games on it and found where sound doesn't work. |

Fishead, there are lots of reasons for lost sound including corrupted outdated drivers. I'm thinking since you are also having a problem with Word the two may be related. Incompatible or faulty software or hardware.
If you have not done it yet, look in Events Viewer and see if there may be a clue there. It may show an error that's occurring over and over. Especially for sound.

Rb, I have 4 computers, and this laptop isn't one that I use and it doesn't even have word on it. It is a factory os disc that should have included working drivers for sound, just like the original disc did that vista somehow expired. The factory recovery disc should have returned it to its original state and sound did work when I bought it. It says it has a sound driver in device mang, but sound doesn't work.
The "word" is on my main pc, after an update it caused problems like it did with so many other people and I did find a fix. |
