Of course anything with vista doesn't work right. I decided to sell my older laptop, but after much thought figured I feel better about it if it was reformatted so no one could get my private info, passwords etc. I have done a reformat before. It was with a recovery dvd I made myself right after I bought the pc. Everything went fine back then but now just when it startes to download the new data it gives me an error ms and from there I can't do anything. I tried recovery etc and everything gives me the same Error 0x4001001300001002.
I checked google and found this is a common problem, but no one came back later to explain how to fix. I saw people even ordered a new dvd from hp and still got the error. I did try to install win7 and it loaded and works just fine, but I can't get it authenticated because it is for my toshiba and I read where they check to see if it is in fact a toshiba, so its illegal copy.
Rb, don't go through a lot of trouble but if you want to check it out I would appreciate it. I may be off line tonight and tomorrow so there is no hurry what ever I doubt there is much I can do, so again this paper weight sits idle.

I also tried this:
Note: If you find that this is the cause of your issue and it's happening regularly, you might want to consider changing the boot order in BIOS so the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
and it didn't work. |

What I think happened was I sent this pc back to factory where they were supposed to replace the mb, but I think they repaired it instead. So now the disc I made doesn't match the changes. |

Actually it looks like maybe they replaced it and that is what's causing a problem. With a new MB the copy of Vista may have needed a new Key. Let's hope they didn't register it with a different Key than what came with it.
There are a bunch of hits for your error, Dave.
reformatting vista get error Error 0x4001001300001002
The first one if from a Vista Forum and it sounds like maybe what you're talking about?

hits - ya I know rb, I have been reading for some time and not getting good answers. Maybe they did replace the mb. But I'm not getting that far to know about a key. It starts the reformat, then when it's time to install vista it gives the error. |

I've read over a few of those hits, all seem to be similar to your problem but answers don't always work. One guy said to use a repair and recovery disk. For some that didn't seem to work
I know you said you made your own but you might try a fresh set. You can download them here for free

I was at that page before. I can get into the recovery part they are talking about with my pc, but then I wind up back to the same error. I have seen this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927391 and just found again and saw others say that worked. I am getting off line for the night so I'll be back tomorrow after I get home.
Thanks for the help. |
