Ok the reason it didn't work is because for each database you need a different username so although I can do that it means I can't go from one to the other. But the host can do it for me
I have a portal on my site but I'm assuming I don't really need to copy that over too? Or do I? I never need to touch those files when doing mods.
If I don't need it on my mirror board does it matter if the tables for the portal are in the copied database and not being used? |

Unless you need to modify your portal code, there is no need to include it on your Test board. The Test board should be identical in almost every way with your Live board though so that your Test installs will work the same as on your Live board...
It won't matter if the portal tables are in your Test database. They will just remain idle and out of the way...
I'm glad that your host is willing to help with this. I wonder why they require a different username per database? That seems like an unnecessary restriction...

They are good, they've helped me alot with things
They said it was because the way Plesk (the new server) keeps things more secure
So will the tables take up disc space at all? |

It depends on your host. For our previous host, the database size did not eat up our available web space. But for our current host, the database size is counted against the available space. It's no big deal though since we have so much available space now that it is unlikely that we will ever use all of it...
For our previous host, there was a 100 MB limit on each database. There are no database size restrictions with our current host...
