Argh I'm getting in a muddle,

OK I changed what you suggested in the php_config table and I changed what I needed to in my config.php (I wasn't sure about $dbms = 'mysql'; but I asked IX and they said that it was right)
When I go to Bdz using the IP IX have given me I get taking to a holding page - should it take me to the site?

Sorry NR this should be so easy and yet I always manage to make it a marathon Crying or Very sad

Yep, I renamed our phpBB Chat forum to Area 51 after I stopped helping out over in the phpBB.com Area 51 site. That's probably where this topic should be so that I might respond to it faster. I monitor the Area 51 forum more often than any of the other forums...

I went through your IX database and changed the dynamic babydreamz.net domain settings to your IP addy: 76.163.49.4. So now you can access the new IX forum using this address:

http://76.163.49.4/forums/index.php

If everything is working correctly, then you are ready to permanently assign the DNS settings for babydreamz.net to the IX DNS servers. I believe that you need to do that through your domain Registrar. Once the DNS settings have been officially changed and time has been given for the new DNS settings to propogate around the planet, then we can go back into your phpbb_config table and change the static IP addy to your dynamic domain name address. Then we can synchronize any messages posted to the old forum in with the new database so that nothing is lost...

Great!!! If there are any missing messages that were posted to the old forum, then we can transfer them to the new database too. Hopefully there won't be too many that need to be transferred...

In a day or so, we need to go back into your phpbb_config table and change the static IP addies to the domain name...

To move the missing messages, we export them from the phpbb_topics, phpbb_topics_watch, phpbb_posts, and phpbb_posts_text tables, them import the missing messages into the new database. We can edit the SQL file and only import the missing records. The tricky part will be setting the post_ids since it is likely that the same ids will have been used in both places. We will not be able to import records where the post_ids already exist in the new database. So we might have to renumber some of the post ids...

How many records are we talking about???
