Hello everyone,

I have around 60 MODs installed on my board and my skin is default (subSilver). What If I want to change the skin/layout to a new one completely without loosing the MODs and I want all the MODs to be installed or copied on my new skin too as it is. Is that possible in a short way as I don't know any shortcut for it.  dontknow

Some times the easiest way to learn something is to jump right in and try it.  You really need to set up a Test board so that you will feel better about playing with the code without risk to your community...

It would take quite a bit to bring a new template up to speed now that you have installed over 60 MODs.  But the experience would probably turn you into an expert by the time you are done.  So it might be worthwhile to go through the process...

Good idea...

Creating Test phpBB Board

I can give you enough to get started.

  1. The first thing you want to do is download all of your board files and folders to your PC.
  2. Next, create a folder on your server called Test...
  3. Upload all of the board files and folders that you just downloaded to your PC back to your new Test folder...
  4. Create a new Test database
  5. Open the Test config.php file in your favorite editor and modify the dbname, dbuser, and dbpasswd settings to match your new Test Database
  6. Create a database backup of your Live board database from your ACP...
  7. Restore your new database backup back to your new Test database.  This will probably take a long time.  You will probably need some help with this step unless you are very familiar with phpMyAdmin...
  8. Modify phpbb_config table settings in your Test database that contain a full or partial board path to match the URL path on your new board

Your new Test board should be good to go at this point.  My instructions above may take some time to accomplish, but it is worth it to have a Test board available to test install new MODs that you want to install on your Live board.

If you are using broadband, step one shouldn't take that long.  If you are using SmartFtp, be sure to use the Gobal Queue option to guarantee that all the files get downloaded correctly...

These are the instructions for the Global Queue upload process, but the Global Queue download option is similar, so this should give you a pretty good idea of how it's done...

SmartFtp Global Queue Upload Instructions

In SmartFtp, to upload using the Global Queue option, right click on the destination folder on your FTP server and select Upload/Global Queue/Select...

Then click on the Add Files button to select all the files that you want to upload to your chosen destination folder...

Then click the OK button.  Next, in the Transfer Queue tab at the bottom, click on the Start arrow and that will get the Global Queued Upload to begin and continue until the upload is complete, regardless of whether SmartFtp has to reconnect multiple times to do so...

I have never used any of these FTP Programs. But I have used FrontPage 2003 for a long time and I have already started copying files into my PC through it. Is that okay with Frontpage 2003 or I should do through the FTP Programs you mentioned above...

I highly recommend using SmartFtp.  It is a very powerful and useful FTP application and the best part is that it is free for non-commercial use...
