The Cardinals

I have a family of cardinals
in my big old  backyard tree
They've raised a lovely family
And now the young ones flee

I've tried to get some pictures
but they won't pose for me
no matter how still I am
they hide  up in the tree

So I have to watch them
through my window pane
upsetting my trees residents
from that I will refrain

Your scarlet color thrills me
and offers me much pleasure
And when you're gone in winter
these memories I will treasure
