On Being Left
There will be an empty gap in my life when you leave.
No one left to fill in the spaces and soften the edges
With smiles and laughs and warm embraces.
That was your job.
Now my prop is gone.
I'm playing alone on an empty stage
No more whispered cues or friendly praise
You were my audience, your smile my applause
Why are you going away?
The curtain falls on the final act
The house lights dim
The audience drifts quietly away.
Where are my roses?
I stand alone in the wings
No curtain calls, no reprieve.
The door closes, muffled
All is silent
The final sound is heart broken sobs,
But please don't applaud-
They aren't part of my play.

Thank you Katy, I 'm afraid all I write is sad stuff about love ending, people leaving, death, you know just your average pessimist. |

I think those type emotions are most likely to motivate a person to put pen to paper. A way to share the pain. Joy and happiness usually drive us to interact with people on a personal bases.
I admire anyone that can put feelings into words in general and even more so those that can put it into poetry.

My Mask
Behind this mask lives a brittle shell,
a silent cry of pain
A scream that echoes endlessly
an emptiness i can't explain
If you look at me with disappointment
or turn away in disgust
I'll shatter into tiny shards of glass
as fine as the blowing dust
But i will wear this smiling mask
no one shall ever know
I gave my heart away to you
with a love I'd hoped we'd grow.
You tossed my heart into the air
for you twas just a game
You know how much I feel for you,
But I'll pretend for you just the same.
