Is there a good mod anyone can recommend to create scheduled backups of my phpBB database, rather than than performing them manually?

In my experience, none of the MODs I've installed to automatically backup the database have worked well. However, I do know of a forum that is using a fully functional database backup utility that seems to work well. Off hand, I don't know the name of the MOD. This is an admin who I help all the time, so I will ask her if she remembers the name of that MOD...

The problem with a MOD like this is that it can quickly eat up your domain space if you aren't paying attention, especially if your database is huge. So once installed, you may need to go back and manually remove backups from your server from time to time just to prevent running out of space...

Yea i was thinking of something like this coz of the ammount of mistakes i make but, i always have the problem of space myself and i would never keep on top of it neither!!

When you get your IX domain, you won't have to worry about domain space again, or at least not for a very long time. I just looked at the site I was referring to and see that she does a pretty good job of keeping the number of backups down. This is what's stored in her backups folder now...

As you can see, each database backup is pretty large, so it doesn't take long to eat up a lot of domain space...

I sent her a PM so hopefully she will be able to respond to it soon. Since she lives in Austratlia, she is about 16-19 hours ahead of me. Sandie's daughter is also going through some serious medical problems right now, so Sandie may not be able to respond right away...

awwwww, no probs!! I was just thinking with this mod, can you schedule this to back up when you want, for example once a week or summat daft like that?

Ok, she just told me that the MOD that adds the automated database backup utility comes bundled in a much larger security MOD: phpBB Security...

This is her comments on it:

I needed to work hard on this mod. But we did eventually get it going and tell you what it is bloody marvellous.

It not only protected me a while ago when a load of us were under attack and sites were falling left and right and we stayed solid. It is still stopping and automatically banning the hackers that are still trying.

I truely believe this one program is worth the effort.

So she obviously seems pretty happy with it...

If this is difficult to install, I can help you through it. I don't remember this as being a difficult MOD to install, but Sandie remembers it differently, so time will tell...
