How do I do this ... I tried to do this on the test board which went terribly wrong... I don't like the Portal now. It's way too tricky to customize etc Sad

Which Portal did you install and did you use EM to install it?  I think you installed Smartor's portal if I remember correctly.  If you used EM to install it, you can Restore all the EM Backups till the Portal is removed, then reinstall the other MODs again using EM.  If you don't want to do that, then your only option is to manually remove the Portal MOD code...

I had to start over again... fresh installation of phpbb2 because I buggered everything up... I managed to figure out how to import categories, forums, posts and users though. I forgot to save the topics stuff in a backup of the sql file though so I lost the posts that were made.

Anyway, I'm just going through it all again.... trial and error and all that. I'm getting to know how phpmyadmin works a bit better anyway.

But that Portal had to go though yeah... it was really annoying to work with Sad

Well if you go through this enough times, you will be an expert in no time at all.  So the whole process may be a valuable learning process to you even if it is two steps forward and one step back from time to time...
