So in EM Settings, when you pressed the Submit button, did EM tell you that it logged in and everything was successful? If so, go ahead and try to install a MOD using EM if you have one handy...

on pressing the update settings i got the following error
FTP ERROR: connection to localhost:21 failed.
This error occurs frequently, particularly on hosts like Lycos. Back on step 1 you should try changing the FTP Server from "localhost" to whatever hostname you typically use when you FTP. |

Are you on a different server than when you first installed EM? If not, did you ever have EM working on this server???
You can go into EM Settings and change localhost to your FTP Server address. Then you will probably need to change PHP FTP Extensions to No. Then press the Submit button and see what happens...

i did try and use the server name but got this error
FTP ERROR: connection to customersites.easily.co.uk:21 failed.
This error occurs frequently when the port number is incorrect. Back on step 1 you should try changing the FTP Port from 21 to whatever port you typically use when you FTP.
in my ftp i do use 21 as the port |

The port number is not the problem, so that error message is deceptive...
So is customersites.easily.co.uk the full FTP addy that you use in your FTP application???

No, you must be using SmartFtp. That's what I use too. I don't know why the SmartFtp developer added that part to the FTP addy, but it has nothing to do with it...
I'm actually running out of ideas here. Do you want me to take a closer look at it for you? If so, send me a PM and we can go from there...
