Should be something called "redirects" Click on that. If there are any redirects set it should say it there

Are there different DNS settings for each domain?  That probably wouldn't make sense if they are both hosted by the same host.  I'm just thinking out loud here since I have never attempted this myself, so don't mind me if some of what I say is dumb...

Don't you have different domain folders in your FTP Server?  It would seem that if you enter the domain, it couldn't point to the same place as another domain unless you have redirected the path to do so...

dontknow

I have subdomains which each have their own folders with their own htdocs.

In my FTP its like this:

enchantedforest folder  - which uses  enchantedforest.jaddon.com
jadelightpoetry folder - which uses jadelightpoetry.jaddon.com
htdocs folder -  which uses jaddon.com

When I bought the new domain addy for Enchanted Forest "EF" it points to the htdocs folder which uses jaddon.com so now if you go to
www.jaddon.com/ and www.efsims2.com they both lead to Jaddon's home page. Sad

My host said they would set it up for me so both url domains point to each of their own web sites but it will cost me an extra $27 a year which I don't understand why I have to pay every year for a one time set up  dontknow  the person I spoke to did not know he said he does not know about that.  He also said if I could code it myself I would not be required to pay the extra $27 a year.  If it was a one time fee I would pay it for them to set it up but I just don't want to spend an extra 27 a year for a one time thing!

I found these 2 topics about it on my host forums
Redirecting new domain and Two domains within one account but I am not fully understanding how to do this or if this is what I need to do.

thanks

Yes I think so - there is a Custom DNS Record Console in my control panal at my host.  It shows both of my domains.  The only thing I can change in there is the ip addresses from the host - they are all the same.

It also has email listed with both the same info expect the url name - the email for the new domain is working with no problems.

Where are the htdocs for the new domain, or where are the files for the new domain?

This may vary from host to host, but you'll need to set up folders within your base htdocs folder for the various domains. Then you'll need to set the DNS pointers for the new domain to its subfolder within htdocs. Since all the site files are within one hosting account, you'll need to use CNAME settings for the new site.

Does your hosting service allow you to change CNAME in your DNS settings? Or does your registrar allow you to access/change the CNAME settings?

At least that's what I'm remembering from setting up 3 restaurant sites in one hosting package. This was easy for me, because the hosting was at Network Solutions, where the domains were registered. It was point 'n click to do that. If your hosting is not at your registrar, you'll have to set the CNAME yourself.

Might be a good idea to read whatever help files there are about CNAME at your registrar. The Network Solutions help files gave me the CNAME settings to use if the restaurant domains were registered at a different registrar.

banana whooo hoooo!!!!! I did it!   It took lots of trial and error but I figured out how to get it to work!  Thanks to everyone for helping me.    Dancing  Dancing

I used htaccess file to make the url work!

Quote:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond s%{HTTPS} ^((s)on|s.*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^/*(.+/)?([^.]*[^/])$ http%2://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1$2/ [L,R=301]

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^newsite\.?com [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.newsite\.?com [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/newsitefolder/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ newsitefolder/$1 [L]

mainsite/htdocs/newfolder/   Note - did not need to put htdocs in the newfolder although it is claimed that you do.  dontknow

now http://www.jaddon.com/ and http://www.efsims2.com/ are each pointing to their own website!   Whooo hoooo!

Both websites need to be updated but at least now they are each using the right url address!   Dancing
