On all phpbb boards that i am on, if you click on the newest icon for the message, it takes you straight to that message on the page, when i click on it on your site, i only get taken to the top of the page. Why is this? |

Sorry, Nightrider, with your permission....
Rizzo, it is due to a MOD installed here at RCF that automatically resizes
any 'oversized' images to a size fitting the page, so that the page layout
doesn't get broken, ie: sideways scrolling is surpressed...
That MOD works by running a javascript over every single post on this (or
any page)... while doing so, it interferes with the anchor (#) connected to
the most recent post (or any post at that), the one for this post looks like
this, for example (NB: it's the #172313 suffix that's affected):
http://4fxearth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=172313#172313
As an ADMIN you just have to decide what is more important to you,
the resizing of the image or the direct jump to the post...
I decided to keep the direct jump at RafikiTalk and to find some
other method for resizing the images (which I didn't until now...)
Nightrider decided to have the images resized and to take
in account that the direct jump to the post doesn't work...
Hope to have explained it correctly Nightrider,
Remember I brought this to your attention
last year? |

Ah wonderful, that makes sense! I'd been looking at installing something like that on my site, but if it's going to cause that problem, then i won't!! Thanks for the great explanation! |

Rizzo, I'm not sure I know what you are referring to. In Opera, when you click on the newest message icon displayed with who made the post, it takes you directly to that message. Am I misunderstanding what you are saying???

It doesn't take me directly to the post, it opens the page with the first post of the threat showing.
That's in Netscape.

Well now I can't say for sure. The reason being I wasn't doing it right apparently. I'm in Opera now and it just occured to me that I should press the yellow sq rather than the subject title. When I pressed the yellow square I was taken right to the new post!!!
GREAT!! Learned something new! Again.
Now post a reply so when I go to Netscape there will be a new message and I can try it out with that browser.

Yes, if you click on the Subject, phpBB has no idea that you want to jump to the last message. How does it know that you haven't read all of the messages before it? So it would take you to the first message unless it has pagination and you clicked on one of the other pages or if you clicked on the little icon next to the poster's name...

OK, when I came back to Netscape there was a new message icon, for the post I made using Opera, and when I clicked on it I was taken to the post I had just made.
IT WORKS!
Yahooooooooooo!!!

It's always worked for me, that's why I'm a bit puzzled at what Rizzo and SwissCheese are referring to...
