Best Buy is usually the place to go if you have one close by. I have almost always found a better price there than anywhere else. If you time it right, you could buy a DVD burner that has a rebate. You can go online to see what the rebates are at your Best Buy right now...

The only DVD burners that seem to have current running rebates are the Plextar DVD Double Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW burners. When you click on the product, you will see a tabbed interface displayed below them. If there is or was a rebate offer on the product, a rebate tab will be included...
