I sent out an email explaining that RCF will be down for up to 24 hours. If you did not receive it, I would like to to be told about it. In the email I said the following:

Our host has offered to move our site to a different IP address and file server to try to improve the performance of our board. Due to propagation issues with the Internet, our board may not be accessible to some for up to 24 hours once the transfer begins...

This move will not correct the nightly shutdown at around 3 AM though since that problem involves the database server. Our host is supposedly urgently working on the problem so that we will be able to have uninterrupted service 24 hours per day eventually...

Hopefully this move to a different IP will make a significant and noticeable performance improvement for the display of our web pages. Your bookmarks will continue to work once the site comes back online, so this transition should not change the way we access our community...

Thank you for your patience on this matter...

I hope this temporary inconvenience is worth it...

If there is a chance we might have faster loading then it's worth it I think. Sometimes it takes so long to load a page I have time to take a nap. Not true I know but it seems that way. I know way back when we first started it was even slower but that's small comfort actually.

I have a feeling that the page load performance isn't going to drastically improve until they can improve the performance of the database server. When the SQL processing was running at between 5-15%, our pages loaded much faster. Now the SQL processing time is back to around 50-80% so the page load performance has suffered. I'm not convinced that this move to a different file server is going to change a thing, or at least not much. We will see though...

I kind of thought that they would have started the transfer by now. They said that they would send me an email when they started, but so far I've received nothing...

Ok, I finally received this email from our Host:

Hi Blake,

I have just started the move process. Please note that the move can take 48 hours to be processed. However we will be keeping an eye on this process and will also keep you updated.

Please note that during the move process, your site should only be down for a period of a few hours while the DNS re-propogates.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.

Apparently, our host maintained our old IP addy until the new had propagated around the Internet. The result was that our board may never go down during this transition to a new file server. RCF seems to be available to everyone without interuption...

I have not heard from our host recently. The last email I received said that the transition may take up to 48 hours. Based on what I can gather, the transition to the new IP address and file server is complete. If you encounter any problems in the next day, it could have something to do with this transition. I would still like to hear if you encounter any downtime with RCF...

I haven't run into down time. The forum also isn't any faster... but you'd guessed it might not speed up, NR.

The transfer doeesn't seem to be complete yet. This is our new IP addy:

It doesn't work completely yet as you can see. They told me that it might take 48 hours to completely transfer the site to the new IP, so there is still hope that when it is finished, the performance of the board will improve. Don't hold your breath though. I think the problem is with the database server, not the file server...
