Ok, this part is quick and painless. If I am going to use phpMyAdmin to back up my db, do I need Complete Database Backup v1.0.1 any longer?

Yes, or you can upload the mysql_install.php file to your forum root and run it from your browser...

| Ok, then once that is done remove both the mysql_install.php and the folder witin admin/mods, right? And, when I did the mysql_install.php - it had "have a nice day" at the end. AHAHAHA, cute. Went back to install the MOD, still showed the SQL error?!?! I installed it anyhow but... where do I see it?!?! |

EM will continue to show the SQL error because the offending SQL query is still in the MOD script. But since you know that the database has been successfully updated, you can always safely ignore the SQL Processing error, as you did...
The Optimize Database option is in your ACP Database Admin section:
It is currently set to launch once per day. I have it set to launch hourly here in RCF. That may cause a problem with some database servers if they limit the number of queries to the database...

Ooooooh, I see it now. I don't have to do mine that often, I can go weekly and it would be fine. Posting has dropped off loads.
BUT.... what tables should I check off OR leave it at the defaults as seen now?? |

The tables that are checked are not optimal. The next time it launches, it will optiimize all of those tables. You don't have to do anything. It's all automatic...
