It (IX) says that it can be prevented by using the appropriate overrides in .htaccess

Do you know what they would be?

Code:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(.+\.)?mysite\.com/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ /images/nohotlink.jpe [L]

Change mysite.com to your site.
Create a replacement image called nohotlink.jpe in /images/ directory aswell.
