My phpBB version is 2.0.19
I attempted installing EasyMod and I got the following error message.
Testing selected write method
Testing FTP access...
FTP ERROR: login failed
The FTP Server was connected to, but the username and password were rejected. The following is recommended:
1. Did you correctly type the username and password? Make sure your CAPS LOCK key is off and try again.
2. If you are 100% certain your user/pass is correct, then perhaps you are not connecting to the correct host or on the correct port. Try changing your FTP Server entry from localhost to the actual ftp host name and your FTP Port entry from 21 to the actual ftp port.
Now how do I determine my ftp host name and also my actual ftp port ? |

Welcome to RCF harishkumar09!!!
The port should remain set to 21. The FTP addy would be the same that you use in SmartFtp to access your FTP Server, minus the username that SmartFtp adds after the path. If you change the FTP Server setting from localhost to your FTP address, change the PHP FTP Extensions setting to No...
After entering the correct FTP username and password, then go ahead and try the EM install again...
If you still encounter an error, check to see if there is a Rescan button at the bottom of the page. If so, go ahead and press it and hopefully EM will be able to use the Automated Detection option...
Welcome to RCF harishkumar09!!!

Good Luck with it harishkumar09. Keep me informed of your progress. I hope this suggestion proves to be your solution. If not, we will continue to explore other options until EM is successfully installed on your forum...

Actually my forum resides in a subdomain. It exists inside abc.mydomain.net
The path to phpBB folder is as follows:
abc.mydomain.net/phpBB2
So in such cases what should I fill in for "FTP path to phpBB2" ?
You can access my forum at :
http://abc.mydomain.net/phpBB2/index.php
Of course these are not the real addresses.I have used aliases. As I don't know if its safe to make the ftp path public here. |

I have several of our forums sitting on subdomains too. The path to your board in the EM settings should be the subdomain name/forum folder name. So on using your example, it should be something like this:
| Code:
|
|
abc.mydomain.net/phpBB2
|
On our subdomains, I installed the forum in the root of the subdomain, so there is no forum folder other than the subdomain folder. So the path to the board is something like this in that instance:

| Ok nightrider , I tried and it didnt work out.I even tried setting all fiels to 644 first as each one was having different permissions. But it gave an "permission denied" message.AFter that I confined myself to setting the folders to 755 which seem to have worked. But when I ran easymod I had the same error as in the first post. |

Did it break your forum when you changed the file permissions to 644? If so, then you need to install a modified EM version to get it to work on your server. Back when EM was developed, almost all servers used 644 for file permissions, so the developers mistakenly hardcoded those settings in EM. Now there are more and more sites that require different file permissions than standard, so this can be a problem for those sites...
If you have already modified all of your file permissions and aren't sure what your host allows/requires, simply upload a file and check it's permissions. Those would be the permissions you want to use for all of your files. Let me know if your file permissions must be something other than 644 and if so, I can make the modified version available to you. If you are on a standard server, then you don't really need the modified version though, so there is no benefit in installing it if you don't need it...
