Are you getting any error messages or is it just hanging at Step 2???
I am concerned about some of your folder permissions. I see that you have some set to 777, which is very dangerous and also could prevent EM from installing on some servers. The only folders that should be set to 777 are your cache and images/avatars folders along with any folder where you allow members to upload files to your server. The vast majority of your folder permissions should be set to 755 though...

No, this won't affect any installed MODs. The MOD code is integrated into your phpBB code and EM is nearly a standalone utility. You don't have anything to worry about...
So are there any error messages during the EM install or is it just freezing up? Or is it doing something else that I haven't mentioned???

You really don't want to go with the manual option if you can avoid it. That is a real PITA to have to install a MOD that way and I doubt that you would be happy with it...
Go back on the first page of the EM install and change PHP FTP Extensions to No. Then change localhost to your FTP server address and try it again...

This is the worst case scenario. EasyMOD does not have permission to either create new files or to replace the old files with the new ones. There are several things you can do:
If you have FTP access, then use the FTP option.
Your server has "safe mode" enabled which means EasyMOD cannot automaticly replace your phpBB files. You might consider using chmod or chown to allow access.
You might consider using chmod to allow access. However, this is not advised in a shared server environment.
Otherwise you will have to download the files and then manually move them into place.
