I recentley had a big problem with my forum but now seems ok "with a big thank you to KnightRider.

I tried going back to a backup. It was a full Public HTML backup. And i was going to re add my full Forum Folder as alot of my problems where template related.

I came to find that in that folder it didnt download everything. It didnt even have my template folders. Is it a waste of time? Why didnt it save everything?
dontknow

No, it is important to maintain good backups just in case anything ever were to go wrong.  You should be able to recover from any problem if you do so.  It sounds like the backup failed during the download so you didn't get everything.  That's why I highly recommend using SmartFtp and the Global Queue option whenever downloading/uploading large numbers of files.  If the connection gets dropped during a Global Queue process, SmartFtp reconnects and continues where it left off.  It guaratees that all the files and folders will be successfully downloaded/uploaded correctly...

It is also important to keep good backups of your database.  How often you do it depends on how much you can afford to lose.  If every post is important, then you probably want to backup your database at least once per day...

Its funny you say that as im using the very same to do one now lol
The only thing i find is every now and again it asks me to overwrite as the foler may have the same file. Do i just click continue? Incase it overwrites and if i ever need to upload my whole forum folder inthe future it wont be a mess?

I select the All option and press the Overwrite button.  That way I know that everything is current.  Also it stops bothering you from asking again...

On Linux or other *Nix servers, you can have two files that are spelled the same but have different font case.  So Index.php and index.php would be two separate files that could be stored in the same folder.  But if you try to download those to a Windows PC, then there is a problem because Windows treats them as the same file.  So that is why you might be seeing what you've said...
