Hi!
I'm having a bit of a problem that I can't seem to fix. Here's the story behind it.
I was installing the Calendar Mod and when I got done I checked it out and all seemed ok. So I moved on to the Album_mod (I know, mistake number one, always make sure one mod is working before installing another!!)
I did all of the copy commands in the album mod. Then I tried to run the included SQL update in my browser and I got a critical error, could not connect to database. So I checked the forum again, everything was ok, I deleted the SQL install file in my root, then I installed the SQL commands by hand in phpmyadmin with no errors or issue's......
Then off I went to my ACP to see if easyMOD would install the rest of the file edits. And that is when I realized I had a problem. When I went into my ACP, the left column came up blank (white) no errors.
My first thought was that there is no way this could have anything to do with the album mod since all I had done was copy the included files, and then ran the SQL commands in phpmyadmin. Am I right to assume this? Or could my running the SQL install file and getting a critical error have something to do with the blank page?
This is what I have done to try and fix the problem. First, I stopped right where I was with the album mod (only copy and sql done) and I went to my backups from the Calendar mod. I started with the includes changes as my googling experience told me the issue was most likely in one of the includes changes. So one at a time I restored each file I edited and checked after every one to see if it would work again, that way I would know which file I messed up in. But then after I was done putting every back-up file back on the server the problem was still happening
So I am totally confused now as to what or where it is. After putting all unedited files back on from the calendar mod, I then re-did each edit hoping that would do it, but it didn't help.
Then I thought well maybe I should continue with the Album mod edits in hopes that having run the SQL but not doing the edits could have caused it, but again no luck.
So now here I am, both Calendar and Album mod are fully installed and work great, but my left column in the ACP is still blank. The backups of the files I edited don't fix it.
I can provide back-up files (txt) or edited files if you know which file may be the problem.
Thank you Nightrider! |

Usually when the left navigation panel in the ACP errors out or comes up blank, an included MOD file is causing the problem. Many times, you can simply delete all the included MOD files that were uploaded to the forum admin folder and the problem goes away. Then the trick is to figure out why it is happening and correct it because you probably will want the admin functionality provided by the MOD...
Which forum is this happening in? I was able to log into the Friends That Matter Forum and didn't see a problem there. I was not able to log into the Flocking Together Forum though, so I couldn't check to see if it was the one with the problem...

Wow, see I never would have thought of that! I love learning new things. Ok, so I will check out the files included that went into the admin folder. I will delete one at a time and try to figure out which one is creating the problem, and I will get back to you with that info.
I have also pm'ed you with the FTP info for the flocking together forum in case you wanted to troubleshoot.
I'm back and I found which one was the problem. It was one of the included files from the album_mod. |

The first thing to check is to make sure the lang_main_album.php and lang_admin_album.php files are uploaded to your language folder(s). If you support more than just English on your forum, you would want to make sure these files are stored in each language/lang_xxx folder...

You have both files stored in your lang_english folder???
Did you try uploading this file again to the admin folder to make sure this is the file causing the problem???

| Yes, both files are located in my lang_english folder and yes, I just put the admin_album_cat.php file back on and the left panel in the ACP is blank again, so it is definitely in that one. |

I may have to add echo statements in the file to try to pinpoint the problem in the file. It would be nice if there was an error message on this...

Yeah, I hear you! An error would be nice.
I would definitely be interested in knowing the process you go through to add echo statements. Are you just going to try to create an error? To help find where the error in the file might be?
Without your knowledge and help on this I would be stuck, Thank you! |

I'm getting a late start today and yesterday I was so busy, I didn't get a chance to dig deeper into your problem. I did add some echo statements throughout the admin_album_cat.php to see how far it went before failing but the results were inconclusive. I'm going to be heading out again here in a bit, so hopefully I can continue researching this when I return home...
The echo statements can be used to display the contents of variables and pinpoint the exact flow of the code if it isn't obvious. It would be better if I could use a debugger to step through the code, but I don't have a tool like that nor do I know if one exists for php code...
| Code:
|
|
echo 'I am here <br />';
|
If this line of code is added to a php file, when the code is executed, the "I am here" part would display at the top of the page. Something like this can be handy when trying to figure out what parts of the code are being executed. It can help narrow down where to look for a problem if it isn't clear where things have gone wrong...
| Code:
|
|
echo '$ad_enabled = ' . $ad_enabled . ' <br />';
|
This line of code could be used to display the contents of any variable, in this instance, the $ad_enabled variable. This can tell you whether the variable contains any data and if so, if it is what you would expect to see...
