I found this great program that lets me edit thousands of web pages at once and it works great. I am using the free trial version now but I'm buying it for sure. Its called "Advanced Find and Replace".

That option is also available in UltraEdit, which I use whenever I am fixing site files that have been hacked. The Advanced Find and Replace option can remove hacking code from thousands of files in a few seconds. It's a definite time saver...

wow that ultra edit is expensive at $49. It must do a lot more than advanced find and edit. I think the advanced find is only $29.
As soon as I get all the page templates the same, I will be able to make changes to my whole site in seconds. I had a feeling I was wasting time working on so many pages one at a time. |

Yes, UltraEdit is a full featured and powerful Text editor that is widely used by many computer programmers around the world. It also easily opens huge SQL database backup files that choke most other Text editors. It used to include the UltraCompare utility that made it easy to compare two files to find differences between them. This was great for finding errors introduced from a modification by comparing the files to backups made prior to the changes. Now UltraCompare is sold separately. UltraCompare has made life a lot easier for me many times when looking for problems in modified phpBB files...
My main text editor is 1st Page 2000, but when I need to remove hacked code from a lot of forum files or I need to view an SQL database backup file or when I need to track down an error in modified code, I switch to UltraEdit. UE has saved me more times than I can remember...

I may try the trial version and see if it would be worth it for me to spend the extra money. Thanks for telling me about it. I use fp 2000 mostly but I do like the slideshow option in fp 2006. 2006 has some nice menus and other java scripts too.
I think I have my website all finished, all the pages should be the same template now, I just need to double check. That program saved me about a months work or so. |

I first learned about UE back in 1994 at a job where one of the programmers used it exclusively when writing code. I didn't really use it at all though until I started working with phpBB. UE has been a real time savor for me. So has UltraCompare. I wish they wouldn't have split them, but I can understand why they did...
I tried 1st Page 2006, but was shocked at the way it formats the text. If you save a file in 1st Page 2006, then open it in 1st Page 2000, you should be able to see what I'm talking about. Hopefully by now, they have corrected some of the problems I saw in 1st Page 2006 after it was first released. I was so annoyed by what I saw, I never went back to recheck it to see if the newer versions were any better...

| I'm not sure what you mean, the text looks the same in both as far as i can tell. When I use 2006 to make a slideshow, I keep 2000 open to do all the work, I hate 2006 and only use it minimally. It crashes all the time. Sometimes when I open on a document, like php, it opens 2006 for some reason even though I open it in 2000. |

1st Page 2006 would mess up the formatting in phpBB files when I worked on them. So I would have to go back into 1st Page 2000 to clean up the mess. I didn't like 1st Page 2006 and was very disappointed when it was released, several years behind schedule. It disappointed a lot of people who had waited a long time for it...

ya its kind of like vista, a broken system released to the public. Its too bad they can't just improve what they have instead of trying to revolutionize it and breaking it in the process. I am doing ok with vista on my laptop but I still get reminders of it being broken. Put in a memory stick and it opens the wrong program every time, it can't get anything right.
I'm having trouble posting lately, the page won't load and I lose the post, ot happened last nite too. |

That would be annoying. You would think after all these updates from W95 on, M$ would have all the problems worked out by now...
A lot of times, it seems like the developers get tired of their programs and for whatever reason, they decide to start over from scratch. That's what happened with 1st Page. They just did the same with phpBB. And many times, the rewrite isn't even close to being as good as the product that they are replacing. I wish when they did that, they would give the product a different name so that when you saw the higher version number, you wouldn't be fooled into believing that it is better than the lower versions of the program...
